Zakariyya and Yahya Allah tells us of His servant Zakariyya, who asked Allah to grant him a son who would be a Prophet after him. The story has already been given in detail at the beginning of Surah Maryam and also in Surah `Imran. Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid and Sa`id bin Jubayr said “She was barren and never had a child, then she gave birth.” ﴿إِنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ يُسَارِعُونَ فِى الْخَيْرَتِ﴾ Verily, they used to hasten on to do good deeds, means, acts of worship and acts of obedience towards Allah. ﴿وَيَدْعُونَنَا رَغَباً وَرَهَباً﴾ and they used to call on Us with hope and fear, Ath-Thawri said, “Hoping for that reward which is with Us and fearing that punishment which is with Us.” ﴿وَكَانُواْ لَنَا خـشِعِينَ﴾ and they were Khashi`in before Us. `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported from Ibn `Abbas that this means, sincerely believing in that which was revealed by Allah. Mujahid said “Truly believing.” Abu Al-`Aliyah said “Fearing.” Abu Sinan said “Khushu` means the fear which should never leave our hearts.” It was also reported from Mujahid that the Khashi`in are those who are humble.” Al-Hasan, Qatadah and Ad-Dahhak said, “The Khashi`in are those who humble themselves before Allah.” All of these suggestions are close in meaning. It will be worthwhile to reiterate the reasons why the stories of the Prophets have been cited in this Surah. 1 The story of Prophet Zacharias has been cited to impress on the minds that all the Prophets were human beings and servants of Allah and had no tinge of Godhead in them. They had no power to bestow children upon others because they themselves had to pray to Allah for children for themselves. 2 The story of Prophet Jonah has been cited to show that even a great Prophet like him did not go unnoticed when he committed an error in regard to Allah’s message. But when he repented, Allah, by His grace, delivered him alive from the belly of the fish. 3 The mention of Prophet Job has been made to show that even Prophets were put to hard trials and afflictions and even they had to beg Allah to restore them to health, not to speak of curing others of diseases. Along with these, the other important thing which is meant to be impressed is that all the Prophets believed in the doctrine of Tauhid. That is why they begged and prayed to One Allah alone to fulfill their needs and requirements. Allah Swt. menceritakan tentang hamba-Nya yaitu Zakaria ketika ia meminta kepada Allah agar dikaruniai seorang anak laki-laki yang kelak akan menjadi nabi sesudah ia tiada. Kisah ini telah disebutkan dengan panjang lebar dalam permulaan tafsir surat Maryam dan surat Ali Imran, tetapi dalam surat ini lebih singkat. {إِذْ نَادَى رَبَّهُ} tatkala ia menyeru Tuhannya. Al-Anbiya 89 dengan sembunyi-sembunyi dari penglihatan kaumnya. {رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا} Ya Tuhanku, janganlah Engkau membiarkan aku hidup seorang diri. Al-Anbiya 89 Yakni tidak beranak dan tidak ada ahli waris yang akan menduduki jabatan kenabian sesudahnya untuk mengatur manusia. {وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ} dan Engkaulah waris yang paling baik. Al-Anbiya 89 Hal ini merupakan doa dan sanjungan yang sesuai dengan permintaan yang diajukan. Dalam firman selanjutnya disebutkan {فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ يَحْيَى وَأَصْلَحْنَا لَهُ زَوْجَهُ} Maka Kami memperkenankan doanya, dan Kami anugerahkan kepadanya Yahya dan Kami jadikan istrinya dapat mengandung. Al-Anbiya 90 Ibnu Abbas, Mujahid, dan Sa’id ibnu Jubair mengatakan bahwa istri Zakaria sebelum itu mandul, tidak dapat beranak. Setelah Zakaria berdoa memohon agar dikaruniai anak, maka mengandunglah ia. Abdur Rahman ibnu Mahdi telah meriwayatkan dari Talhah ibnu Amr, dari Ata, bahwa lisan lidah istri Zakaria panjang, lalu Allah memperbaikinya. Menurut riwayat yang lain, pada tubuhnya terdapat sesuatu cela, lalu diperbaiki oleh Allah. Hal yang sama telah dikatakan oleh Muhammad ibnu Ka’b dan As-Saddi. Tetapi pendapat yang paling kuat adalah yang disebutkan pertama tadi. ******************* Firman Allah Swt. . {إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ} Sesungguhnya mereka adalah orang-orang yang selalu bersegera dalam mengerjakan perbuatan-perbuatan yang baik. Al-Anbiya 90 Yaitu gemar mengerjakan amal-amal yang mendekatkan diri kepada Allah dan amal-amal ketaatan. {وَيَدْعُونَنَا رَغَبًا وَرَهَبًا} dan mereka berdoa kepada Kami dengan harap dan cemas. Al-Anbiya 90 As-Sauri mengatakan, maksudnya yaitu berharap atas pahala yang ada di sisi Kami dan cemas takut terhadap siksa yang ada di sisi Kami. وَكَانُوا لَنَا خَاشِعِينَ Dan mereka adalah orang-orang yang khusyuk kepada Kami. Al-Anbiya 90 Ali ibnu AbuTalhah telah meriwayatkan dari Ibnu Abbas bahwa makna khasyi’in adalah orang-orang yang membenarkan apa yang telah diturunkan oleh Allah Swt. Mujahid mengatakan, orang-orang yang benar-benar beriman. Abul Aliyah mengatakan orang-orang yang takut. Abu Sinan mengatakan bahwa al-khusyuk adalah rasa takut yang melekat dalam hati dan tidak pernah lenyap darinya selamanya. Dan dari Mujahid disebutkan pula, bahwa makna khasyi’in adalah orang-orang yang merendahkan dirinya. Al-Hasan, Qatadah dan Ad-Dahhak mengatakan bahwa khasyi’in artinya orang-orang yang merendahkan dirinya kepada Allah Swt. Masing-masing dari pendapat-pendapat tersebut beraneka ragam satu sama lainnya. Ibnu Abu Hatim mengatakan, telah menceritakan kepada kami ayahku, telah menceritakan kepada kami Ali ibnu Muhammad At-Tanafisi, telah menceritakan kepada kami Muhammad ibnu Fudail, telah menceritakan kepada kami Abdur Rahman ibnu Ishaq, dari Abdullah Al-Qurasyi, dari Abdullah ibnu Hakim yang mengatakan, bahwa Khalifah Abu bakar berkhotbah kepada kami.
